Asna Husin holds a Masterís degrees from Columbia and Harvard Universities in religion and Middle Eastern studies, as well as a Ph.D. in religion from Columbia. Husin is currently a Professor at the Ar-Raniry State Institute for Islamic Studies in Darussalam, Banda Aceh, Indonesia. Husin has presented at and coordinated numerous international conferences on nonviolence and peace studies, such as the Womenís Programs at the World Conference on Religion and Peace. She directed the Religious Womenís Assembly in 1999 in Ammon, Jordan. Besides her work as an Islamic scholar, a peace activist, and a womanís activist, she has worked vigorously in tsunami relief efforts. Her residence at Santa Fe Community College is her third Fulbright program. She will speak about Islam, Indonesia, and Islamic peace initiatives.
