, LMHC, LMFT, QAS, is a doctoral candidate at the University of Florida (UF), who also received her Masters/Specialist degree from the UF Counselor Education Program. Her PhD graduation is scheduled May 2018. At UF, Emi has deeply enjoyed instructing Mindful Living and co-facilitating Creativity and Spirituality in Healthcare with Dr. Mary Rockwood Lane. Additionally, Emi has collaborated with Dr. Ana Puig on the Streetlight research, regarding medical students volunteering with teenagers who are severely or terminally ill. Her interests include: multicultural competence, color-blind racial attitudes, mindfulness, connection, ally responsiveness, LGBTQ+ spirituality, compassion, empathy, embodied healing, experiential creativity in counseling, education, and supervision. Emi is also an ordained officiant who has been invited to facilitate ceremonies, such as weddings, funerals, and blessing way circles. She also has co-authored 8 publications, and has given over 30 professional presentations at international, national, regional, state, and local settings.
Emi is currently employed as a licensed counselor and supervisor at a trauma-informed and gender-responsive alternative school. Additionally, for 8 years, Emi implemented music and healing group activities at an inpatient psychiatric hospital. Furthermore, Emi is an approved supervisor for both Mental Health and Marriage and Family Therapy Registered Interns. She has completed the MBSR Teacher Training, 2 years of Somatic Experiencing Trauma Resolution training, and 2 years of Gestalt Training. Emi loves being a member of the UF Mindfulness Team and is one of the initial members of the Center for Spirituality and Health.
